Escondida mining company transfers forty engineering project documents (136 CDs) to its EMC – Documentum repository.

Antofagasta Chile. November 2001 by request of CSC Chile, Puntocom proceed to load and index 25 thousand engineering drawings in the Escondida mining corporate database, the world biggest coppers mine.

Mel´s construction management had accumulated 136 CDs with around 40 projects executed by the company during the last 10 years. Although all drawings are CAD format, they come from different contractors. Therefore, they presented high nomenclature diversity, classification and associated information. As result, the user’s service that demands this information was extremely complex.

The work developed by Puntocom consisted in a detailed analysis of the information contained in the CD collection, the documental type design and a classification common for all documents, a permit to access and consult them in EMC-Documentum, the customization of a Web client and a search engine suitable for the document type, the scripts development and the document downloaded and its associated from the corporate document repository. The project was executed and validated in less than 30 effective working days, and receipt by the client with complete satisfaction

Now users can search these drawings via intuitive search engine, consulting them through the corporate intranet, saving them a significant time accessing critical business information.
