Title: Consultancy for technical document migration from Novamanage to EMC - Documentum in PDVSA.

Problem: PDVSA/Intesa selected EMC – Documentum as the standard content management platform for PDVSA. Before implanting Documentum, there were around three million documents “legacy” in several repositories. From those, a million was stored in the Novamage platform and included oil wells (well folder) and operations (documents and drawings) documents.

PDVSA required specialize consultancy for the documents migration, for this reason it is asked to EMC – Documentum, Inc. the consultancy for the repository documental analysis and migration script development. EMC – Documentum hired its partner PuntocomS.A. to perform these services.

In this document it’s described the consultancy and developments performed for Puntocom 100.000 technical documents migration from three Novamage repositories to EMC - Documentum.

Solution: Once it is defined the reach of the consultancy, Puntocom proceed to analyze in detail the data model for each one of the Novamage repositories. In this way it was replicated with precision the model and design for each documental base.

At the moment of the migration Puntocom already completed the object design stage for the corporate implantation of EMC - Documentum in PDVSA, in a parallel project, there for the following migration activity consisted in folders mapping, documental types, attributes, groups and permits from Novamanage to the EMC – Documentum corporate model.

The third activity consisted in the script development that allow to extract the Novamanage, on one side, the logic route and file name of each past document as an argument, and on the other the relevant data link to the document. This script was developed to be executed directly over a Novamanage data base. The result of its execution was a flat text file with all the variables defined. One of these variables, the logic route, indicated the physical place of the associated document to each register.

With this data file we proceed to configure Docloader, product oriented to the data and documents migration to EMC - Documentum repositories. In Docloader we replicate the folder mapping, documental types and attributes between Novamanage and EMC – Documentum. When the application is executed the documents will be read from a directory and migrated to EMC – Documentum, when the files are ordered and organized under the new corporate objects model.

Results: The script as well as the pre-programmed Docloader application were executed in the customers site,is a trial stage. These were sucsessfull there for Intesa, representing the customer PDVSA, accepted the products delivered from this consultansy in complete agreement (script, pre-configuration Docloader and Documentation.) the massive migration from Novamanage was executed in a date after the end of the consultancy.
