Title: Consultancy for the DCTM 4i corporate implementation for Venezuela’s oils (PDVSA)

Problem: The customer will require to implement a new documental administration platform in the corporation with an object design (cabinets, folders, documents, permits, groups, life cycles, etc.) which would allow incorporating around 8,000 users of all the company in the medium term. The start-up would include 500 users from the exploration and operation areas with Access to an electronic library of 3,000,000 documents migrated from different documental repositories existing in PDVSA.

During the collecting, analysis and design stages we counted with the valuable collaboration of Intesa, a Venezuelan company which provides technology to PDVSA.

Solution: The dimension of the company, the geographic location of the different Works and the PDVSA telecommunication net characteristics demanded the design of a federation architecture with a repository or Docbase member for each location. For the corporate objects design a Workshop methodology from Indesa was used in which final users of the system participate. In a series of 5 workshops carried out at different places all over the country, the available information and the requirements of each geographical area were collected and the previous workshop information was validated. During the last workshop the final design model was validated and approved.

Results: The result of this consultancy was a federated Docbases model for PDVSA, with an architecture design, organizational design and, physic and logic design of objects with a corporate nature. The last, was implemented by Puntocom in a development environment.
Among others, the following design elements were included: object nomenclature policy, documental classification tree (cabinets and folders), data model (classes and objects). The proposal done by Puntocom considered the implementation of 9 new documental types: one with a corporate nature (pdv_document) and 8 specific documental types coming from the previous one (technical documents, reports, forms, etc.)

At this moment, Intesa is implementing the solution for 28,000 employees within the company. It is worth to outstand that PDVSA is one of the 10 biggest EMC-Documentum platform users worldwide.
