The capitalization of knowledge or Knowledge Management is a discipline which promotes an integrated vision to identify, administrate and share all information assets of the company. These assets include data bases, policies, procedures and written documents in general, as well as the unarticulated experience that resides in its workers (Gartner Group 1996).

The final objective in the capitalization of knowledge is to link the users of the corporate knowledge with the available knowledge resources. These resources fall into two categories: the first is the explicit knowledge, or the one that has been formally identified and registered, and which is generally documented in policies, standards, procedures, contracts, manuals or reports. The other type is the tacit knowledge, or the knowledge owned by individuals inside the organization.

Therefore, the capitalization of knowledge is the process by which an organization identify its intellectual value resources, explicit and implicit, it captures them and then provides open access to these systematized manner (Toler 1999).

Great amount of computer systems are out in the market as KM systems and some others already known are re-baptize with the tag. Nevertheless, the system is not the solution to the problem. The capitalization of knowledge responds in the first place to a strategic decision of the company, and then the design of an appropriate strategy.
